Mobile Suit Genderbent: The Pilots!

August 9, 2012 § Leave a comment

I’ve had sketches of the girls here sitting around for months in my notebook, and I finally, FINALLY cleaned them up and made them presentable for the internets! 😀

Okay– HEADCANONS FIRE AT WILL:

–For the purposes of Genderbent Wing, we shall assume that Wufei died on his colony, and in his place we get to keep Meilan as the pilot of 05. Widowed at 15, she harbors a lot of rage and disappointment towards the world, but her inner strength is tremendous. She tends to focus intently, and act swiftly and decisively. She does not do things by halves. This sometimes gets her into trouble with people who think ahead and strategize, like Colonel Treize. She does not suffer fools or idealists kindly. She judges people by their actions, not their intent– she hates people who try to disguise their actions with words. On the other hand, people whose goals are far-reaching enough that she cannot judge them by their immediate effects deeply unsettle her.

— Trowa works with her brother, Christian, in the circus. In her previous employment as a child soldier running with mercenaries she endured some heavy trauma and abuse , the memories of which she has done her best to bury deeply. She likes animals more than people, is very quiet and reclusive, and comes across as cold or even emotionless to all but the most perceptive people.
She can’t read music, but she has an instinct for music. Sometimes she plays the guitar, or the flute.

–Miss Winner is a very perceptive person. Of mixed colonial and earth heritage, she dresses conservatively out of habit, and out of respect for the customs of the men who work for her. She appears a bit dainty and darling on the surface, but she has a practical, firm nature, and a good head for science and engineering. She has a quick and calculating mind that plucks inconsistencies and logical fallacies out of the air. This made her a bit of an irritating and manipulative child, but as she grew older she used this ability to try and constantly better herself. Despite her efforts, deep down, there is still a part of her that is quietly naive, innocently weak. It does not hinder her while fighting, even in the most bloody and unrewarding battles; but when that innocence is finally snuffed out, it leaves behind a dangerous void.
She has more siblings than she cares to count. Miss Winner was a child prodigy, known in the well-to-do circles for her technical expertise with both the violin and the piano.

–Miss Maxwell is a spunky ex-Catholic school girl goth metal head. Like Trowa, her past is not particularly pleasant. She was an orphan picked up by a church-organized sanctuary before her colony was ravaged by war. She takes a devil-may-care attitude towards religion, but wears her cross and her modified old school uniform as a way of remembering her debt to the people who looked after her. While generally laid-back, her sometimes excessively cheerful attitude covers a deep sense of nihilism.
She likes to sing along to Joan Jett tracks, loudly, and mostly off key.

–Yuy does not share. She keeps her own council. The only time she emotes is during her missions, and then it’s a frightening spectacle. She is ready to die at any moment, but does not actively court death. Being alive brings her joy; she sees every moment of life as one she is lucky to have. On very rare occasions, this joy shines through so fiercely it comes across as manic glee. She does not particularly care what her compatriots think of her. Yuy retains a fondness for innocent and beautiful things.
Underneath the detached, almost mechanical attitude, the coldness, the lack of social nuance, is a strong chord of faith. Her faith is not religious, it’s not blind. She has seen what humans do to each other when they think no one is looking. She has looked right at the world and seen through its bullshit. But she keeps fighting, and risking her life, because she believes there is something worth fighting for in the end.

But enough of the ladies of OZ! What of the men??? WHAT OF THEM INDEED?

May I introduce:
—Lord Une (who bears a passing resemblance to voice/actress Enuka Okuma BECAUSE REASONS)

—Prince Reneé Peacecraft (sporting the least masculine haircut in history)

— Lt. Lorenzo Noin (flight instructor and dashing rouge extraordinaire)

— Dominick Catalonia (just as effeminate and touchy-feely as the original)

Lady Treize boozes it up with an amorous socialite in an absurd cocktail dress.

“Watch out, madam! The lioness is on the prowl…”

… As I said, I think Lady Treize would be in favor of plucking/waxing, rather than wearing her prongs proud and pointy the way Dorothy does…
😦 That does look painful, dear.

Mobile Suit Genderbent: Lady Treize and Lt. Marquise

HEADCANONS:

-I think Marquise would be her real name and then she’d go by Zechs while undercover. Neither ‘Zechs’ nor ‘Treize’ strike me as particularly gendered names.

-Lady Treize is older by the time she gets to be as highly ranked as she would be in the series. I think she’d have to struggle harder as a woman working her way up in an old boys’ club like Romafellor (and anyway, who the fuck becomes a colonel at 24 anyway? I’ve always thought Treize needed to be 30 at a bare minimum).
She starts putting her hair up when she’s a colonel, and when she means business.

– Ms. Khushrenada would probably use her femininity very aggressively, and might rely in some part on sex appeal as a way of intimidating people, at least while she’s younger and moving up the ranks. She’s tough as nails under the veneer.

-Marquise just butches it up and doesn’t let other pilots treat her differently. Might actually react with violence if you call her ‘princess’.

-Lady Treize would in no way put up with her natural eyebrows.

-Marquise does her own tuneups and repairs on her MS; likes to chill with the engineers and mechanics. Tries hard to overcome any remnants of her aristocratic upbringing.
